One of these schedules your posts. The other makes them, then handles the reviews, the email, and the texts that a scheduler never touches.

Choose Tenably AI if
Your posting has stalled because nothing gets made. Tenably writes the posts, builds the videos and flyers, and fills the calendar for your actual business, then collects and answers Google reviews and runs email and SMS marketing from the same login. One subscription instead of four.
Choose Buffer if
Scheduling is the entire job. You or your team already produce the content, you are on three or fewer channels, or you publish to Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, or Mastodon. Buffer is cheaper at that size, simpler to learn, and its free plan is genuinely usable rather than a teaser.
Publishing, content creation, reviews, email, and prospecting, side by side. If you only care about the publishing row, read how to post to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube at the same time, and for the comment inbox row see how to reply to every social media comment automatically.

Buffer bills per connected social channel, so cost tracks account count. Tenably bills per plan, with credits and brand limits. Full detail on our pricing page.
Buffer prices read from buffer.com/pricing on 26 August 2026. Tenably prices from our pricing page.
Buffer is a scheduling tool. You write a post, you put it in a queue, Buffer sends it to your channels at the right time. It is clean, it is cheap, and it has been doing that one job well for over a decade.
Tenably is a marketing platform. It writes the post, generates the video or the flyer that goes with it, schedules it, then handles the reviews that come in, the email campaign you meant to send, the texts to your regulars, and the list of local businesses worth calling.
If all you need is a queue, Buffer is the better buy and you should stop reading here. If the reason your marketing is not happening is that nobody has time to make anything, a queue does not solve your problem.
Buffer connects to 11 platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, and Mastodon (buffer.com, August 2026). You compose once, pick channels, and it queues.
It is fast. The interface is quiet and uncluttered, which is exactly why people who tried the heavier enterprise suites came back to it. There is a free plan that never expires. There is an AI Assistant on every plan, including free, that brainstorms ideas and rewrites a caption for a specific platform. There is a Community inbox that pulls comments from ten networks into one list so you are not opening five apps to answer people.
Buffer also does something a lot of comparison pages get wrong: it can show you Google Business Profile reviews and let you reply to them from inside Community (support.buffer.com, August 2026). It is a real feature and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Straight from buffer.com/pricing on 26 August 2026:
Volume rates drop as you scale: Essentials is $6 per channel for channels 1 to 10, $4 for 11 to 25, $3 for 26 to 50, and $1 above 51. Paid plans open with a 14 day trial.
What a channel means
A channel is one social account. A Facebook Page, a Facebook Group, an X profile, a LinkedIn Page, and a LinkedIn profile count as five channels, not one brand. Buffer is cheap at three channels and stops being cheap somewhere around ten.
Three places, honestly:
Buffer users also report two recurring gripes worth knowing about before you buy either tool: analytics that are thin if you need to prove ROI to someone, and channels that occasionally drop their connection and need reauthorising. Buffer's own docs also confirm there are no Google Business Profile analytics and no best time to post data for that channel.
Tenably starts one step earlier than Buffer does. Before there is a post to schedule, something has to make the post.
The AI Video Studio takes an idea or a handful of your own photos and returns a finished short: script, scenes, voiceover, captions, and music, formatted vertical for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts, or landscape for YouTube. There is a browser editor to trim scenes, swap shots, or restyle the captions before it ships.
The AI Flyer Maker does the same for still work. Describe the offer, and it designs a print quality flyer and matching social images using your photos, your logo, and your colors. Change a word and it redraws.
The social media scheduler then does the Buffer job. Pick a range of days and the content calendar fills itself with posts written for your actual business, your menu, your services, your specials. Approve once and each post goes to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn, sized for each. Nothing publishes without your approval.
Then there is everything a scheduler never touches. Review collection by link, QR code, or an automatic text to happy customers, capped at one ask per customer per 90 days. A drafted reply waiting on every new Google review, in your voice. An instant SMS alert when a low star review lands. Trends across what customers keep saying, and a competitor view of how your rating and review volume compare to the businesses down the street.
AI email campaigns that are written and designed from your photos and branding. SMS campaigns, including a keyword system: put "Text JOIN to our number" on a window sticker, and everyone who texts it joins your list with consent on record and gets an instant reply. STOP, START, and HELP are handled automatically.
And a Lead Prospector that scans your area by business type and returns real local prospects with phone, website, and social details, plus a drafted first message.
Above all of it sits the AI marketing agent. It drafts the week before you get in, keeps the queues moving, and hands you a short daily list of the things that actually need a human decision. The full platform tour walks through how the pieces connect.
This is the real difference and everything else follows from it. Buffer's AI Assistant will rewrite your caption and suggest ideas. It will not produce the video, the flyer, or the image. You still need a camera, a designer, or a Canva subscription and an afternoon.
For most small business owners, the caption was never the bottleneck. The bottleneck was having something to post.
Buffer can show you Google reviews and let you reply to them, which is more than most schedulers do. What it cannot do is get you more of them. There is no review funnel, no QR code, no automatic text to the customer who just had a good visit, no low star alert to your phone, no trend analysis, and no competitor comparison. Buffer's own documentation also states there are no Google Business Profile analytics.
Replying to reviews protects a rating. Collecting them is what moves it. Those are different jobs, and review management covers both. If you want the mechanics, read how to get more Google reviews automatically.
Buffer is a social media tool and it says so. There is no email campaign builder and no SMS. If you want to text your regulars about a slow Tuesday, that is a separate subscription, a separate list, and a separate login. In Tenably, email and SMS marketing sit next to the calendar.
No prospecting, no local business search, no contact enrichment, no drafted outreach. Buffer publishes to the audience you already have. For the other approach, see how to find local business leads on a map.
Buffer's per channel model is the cheapest thing on the market at three channels and gets expensive quietly.
Say you run one business with a Facebook Page, an Instagram account, a TikTok, a YouTube channel, and a Google Business Profile. That is five channels. On Buffer Essentials monthly that is $30 a month, or $25 billed annually. Add a LinkedIn Page and an X profile and you are at $42 a month. You are still only scheduling.
Tenably Creator is $24 a month with 1,000 credits, the full video, image, flyer, music, and voiceover studio, and scheduling for up to 2 social accounts. Tenably Pro is $49.99 a month with 2,100 credits, auto posting to every connected platform, review monitoring and responses, the review funnel, auto comment and auto reply, AI email campaigns, and 3 brands. Business is $90 a month with 5,000 credits, 10 brands, the AI Teammate running unattended, Lead Prospector, SMS campaigns and review alerts, auto ads, and competitor analysis. Annual billing saves 20 percent on all three. See full pricing.
The honest comparison is not $49.99 against $30. It is $49.99 against $30 for Buffer plus whatever you currently pay for design, video, a review tool, and an email platform. If you pay for none of those because you simply are not doing them, then the comparison is $49.99 against $30 and doing less.
Pick Buffer if: you already produce content and just need it queued, you are on three or fewer channels, you need Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, or Mastodon, or your budget for marketing software is under $20 a month. Buffer's free plan is genuinely usable and a fine place to start.
Pick Tenably if: your posting has stalled because there is nothing to post, you want more Google reviews and not just replies to the ones you have, you want email and text going to your customer list without another subscription, or you run more than one location or brand and want them in one place.
Use both if: you want Tenably making the videos and flyers and running reviews and campaigns, and you like Buffer's queue for the four extra networks Tenably does not publish to. That is a real setup and it is cheap.

Nothing to migrate but connections. Reconnect your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn accounts in Tenably, let it read your business, and approve your first week from the calendar. Keep Buffer running in parallel for a month if you want the safety net. Your scheduled Buffer posts keep going out either way.
At small channel counts, yes. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels and Essentials starts at $6 per channel per month, or $5 billed annually. Tenably starts at $24 a month. The comparison changes once you count the design, video, review, and email tools Buffer does not include. See pricing.
Partly. Buffer displays Google Business Profile reviews in its Community inbox and lets you reply with text. It cannot collect new reviews, alert you when a low star review lands, show review trends, or compare you to competitors, and Buffer's documentation states there are no Google Business Profile analytics. Tenably does all of those.
No. Buffer is a social media publishing, analytics, and engagement tool. There is no email campaign builder and no SMS product in any plan as of August 2026. Tenably includes AI written email campaigns and two way SMS, with keyword opt in so customers can text a word to join your list.
No. Buffer's AI Assistant generates and rewrites text: ideas, captions, hashtags, and platform specific versions of a post. It does not generate video, images, or flyers. Tenably's AI Video Studio produces finished shorts with script, voiceover, captions, and music, and the AI Flyer Maker produces print ready flyers.
A channel is one connected social account. A Facebook Page, a Facebook Group, an X profile, a LinkedIn Page, and a LinkedIn profile count as five channels, not one brand. Because Buffer bills per channel, your cost scales with the number of accounts you connect, not the number of businesses you run.
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn from a single approval, with each post sized and formatted for its platform, plus Google Business Profile posting. Buffer publishes to more networks, including Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, and Mastodon, so if those matter to you Buffer has the broader list. More in the scheduler.
When scheduling is the entire job. If you or your team already produce the content, you are on three or fewer channels, or you need Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, or Mastodon, Buffer is simpler and cheaper and we would rather you used it. Tenably fits when the reason nothing gets posted is that nothing gets made.
Yes. Some businesses use Tenably to create the videos, flyers, and posts and to run reviews, email, and SMS, then keep Buffer's queue for the extra networks Tenably does not publish to. There is no conflict between the two, and at three channels the Buffer side stays inexpensive.
